Okay, that’s a little dramatic.
But it IS making my search for a cover artist much harder. Hundreds of self-proclaimed artists, all of them promising to return your cover to you in 5 hours or less.
I know a lot of talented artists, but none that can draw a book cover that quickly.
So how do you determine who is or isn’t shilling generative AI as their own (I refuse to call it ‘art’)? If I’m paying upwards of $800, I expect it to be original (or at least licensed) artwork. Is that so crazy?
And it’s getting harder and harder to tell what is or isn’t AI as I’m scrolling through KU. Not a funky finger or backwards foot among them, things that used to be telltale signs of generative AI.
Readers are becoming more aware of AI book covers, and the general consensus is that they won’t buy or read those books. And who can blame them? If an author is comfortable using generative AI for their cover art, how can I trust they didn’t use it to write their book, too?
Anyway, that’s my AI rant. Feel free to drop your reputable cover artists in the comments!
